You don't always get what you want, but you get what you need

Wednesday, June 19, 2013

I started my new job at the kitchen store on Friday. So far everyone seems super nice and I have the ability to walk all over the place if I want. I was worried about getting a reception job and sitting all day. Yesterday was my 3rd day but 1st 8 hr day. I got 8000 steps while at work. I ran out of stuff to do inside and went out and helped in the warehouse. We have a fountain drink machine, a box of ice cream just sitting in the freezer for anyone. I guess there used to be a hotdog machine for the plumbers. Thank goodness I hate pop cuz if I wanted to, I could drink pepsi all day long at this job. Everyone there pretty much eats lunch out everyday. I had a 64 oz black bottle of water and my coworker asked if it was coffee. You ever feel like if your the only one healthy in a atmosphere, if you start talking about it. You sound like the only religious person in a room of non believers. I am gonna try to not to mention anything. Keep to myself on that front. But everyone seems super nice and so far so good. Monday I finally found out the job I wanted, went to someone else. So I had to start my 2 week notice at the healthfood job =( I think I will keep shooting for the website. My boss didn't make like that would be ending, so that's good. Kind of upsetting but maybe I can go back sometime. Right now I need a family supporting job. So weird to be in a job where ppl get vacation time! I am used to working for itsy bitsy businesses where that never happens. Not paid anyway. I am the only one there with no kids. That's a good sign!

Exercise front has been good. I get off from my job early enough that none of my exercise classes are affected. I saw someone biking to this job close yesterday. It just looks a bit dangerous to me still. I am trying to just walk the dogs before work in replacement of biking. Going for a walk before work just puts me in a better mood.

Day 142: Eggplant shooting for work.

Day 143: Mango coconut sorbet. Another moosehead recipe.

Day 144: Come one bees! Potatoes ad zucchini

Congrats on the job! Stinks you didn't get the one you wanted but grown up gotta pay the bills (blech!). I think it's awesome that you got in all those steps. I agree about maybe keeping your lifestyle to yourself for now. Eventually if it comes out in regular conversation that's ok and it may motivate some people. I remember someone at work told me I motivated them to eat a healthier breakfast because she sees what I eat everyday. I never talked about it but I thought it was cool she was motivated by me. Keep up the good work!

One of my art students was hired (post art college) by Home Depot to help people design their kitchens - pick out cabinets, work on placement, countertops, backsplash, paint colors - all that. She really loved the job, but on St Thomas there was as much of a need for that as a bigger place.

Anyway, so do you get to do stuff like that?

And what fun that you get to photograph food - I keep telling you, your food photos are phenomenal! Couldn't you see enlarging some of those for restaurants or kitchens or something? Or markets!

So - enjoy the new job! (And maybe eventually you can spread info about healthier eating options! Be the religious fanatic trying to convert the faithless, LOL!)

Haha what a great metaphore "a religious person in a room of non-believers." I get a weird reaction sometimes when I tell people I've done triathlons. They look at me sideways and I think secretly say to themselves "but you're so heavy." Maybe not...who knows.

Haha whenever my parents come to visit, my mom treats me like some weird freak, because we don't drink pop and we don't even buy it or keep in the house. Sigh. Sometimes you are best keeping your lifestyle to yourself, just to avoid all of that. Where are you working now? I'll have to come and visit you. :)
