Last night's rainstorm was awesome! And quite torrential. My poor bush bean plants were knocked over (one snapped in half!), and I spent half of my lunch hour hilling them back up! One of the neighbors behind my house (to the left) has a small pond forming - I'm hoping it stays in their yard, as it's at the southwest corner of my garden!
It's been clouding up since I got home, and now (8:20 p.m.) I can hear thunder getting closer - The wind is picking up, too. I hope this is a faster-moving storm than last night's - A faster storm won't dump quite so much water! The good news is that these storms bring much-needed water to the water table. The bad news is that the ground can become saturated and we get "ponding" and a bumper-crop of mosquitoes!
This is pretty typical for this time of year - That's why next year I plan to get my garden planted much earlier so that a great deal of what I plant gets harvested and canned in late May to early June to avoid a lot of the pest problems and most of the water problems! A pox on the IRS - Buggers didn't send my tax refund until March, even though I filed in late January!! I now have all the stuff I need for planting and tilling, so this Fall and mid-Winter, my garden can be planned and planted more timely!
Work has been, well, tedious. I keep trying to stay on track, and my boss, who confuses activity with accomplishment and never plans anything, interrupts me with last minute "must do nows" - My co-worker and I get so tired of that. But I suppose if it was all pleasant and enjoyable it wouldn't be called work.
Tonight, I've just been taking it easy - Tomorrow the City picks of yard waste, and last night's storm knocked a few dead branches out of the camphor trees. My son and I got them collected put to the curb along with the grass clippings from this weekend. That was the extent of my yard work for the day! I ate a bowl of cereal, ran a bath, and had a glass of lemonade in the whirlpool - Definitely an "AAHHH!" moment!
I've been yawning for about 10 minutes now, so I guess I need to wind this up and get some sleep.
