Running with the Mouse
Tuesday, June 18, 2013
Sunday was Father's Day. Last Tuesday was my 60th birthday. My June Dyas.
Our son Dave also very much appreciates the amount of time I spend watching Colin. Like hanging with the C-Puppy is a chore ... not. I even got a free trip to Boulder and got to run a 10k while I was there all for the "hassle" of watching my grandson.
So Dave called me on Friday: "Dad, are you dead set on never running another full marathon. I mean I know you saw that guy die in Savannah."
(I say his name so he is remembered: Ulysses Thomas.)
"That is not the reason. It's boredom at Mile 16." There a first world problem. Some can't even walk Mile 1 and I am bored at mile 16. "So why are we discussing this?"
He wanted to give me a half marathon in either California or Florida for my June Days. The Disneyland half was still open. The Disney World Half was full unless you signed up for the Goofy Challenge (half on Saturday, full on Sunday), in which case he suggested I run the Half and bag the Full; an incredible waste of money. The Disney World Full was still open.
I figured like this: I will be running in California in October and I will still need Florida for the 50 States Challenge. So I told him I would take the Disney World Full. I can join Charm City Run Marathon training or I can run the first half and walk the rest.
I'm going to Disney World! WooHoo!
