Streak Day 15 - Muscles and Massage

Monday, June 17, 2013

So last Thursday I started swimming laps for 30 minutes every day. Friday morning I woke up and upper back was KILLING me. I thought it was a reaction to the shrimp emoticon I had the night before because it was similar to a reaction I had to red meat when I ate it.

Yesterday I was still a little sore, but also still swimming. emoticon I realized today that it was the swimming & using muscles I haven't used in years that was causing me a little discomfort...not really pain.

I get a monthly massage at Massage Envy. I started getting them while I was coming off the horrid prednisone and had terrible muscle aches & strange, hard, painful, fat pockets. emoticon I've always had knots under my shoulder blades that Jason so kindly works out with his skillful hands and arms. Today I happily told him I had no knots, but this lovely pain from swimming. He told me swimming is a great workout and he's been going to the beach a few days a week and wading around in the water. Boy, did I not realize how sore my muscles were from swimming. emoticon I almost started laughing out loud when he was working my thighs and hamstrings. I cringed (just a little) while he worked on my upper arms. But it was PURE HEAVEN as he skillfully made my upper back feel wonderful again.

So, I immediately came home and dutifully swam my laps...while my faithful husband sat on the deck and put in the new Alice In Chains CD he bought today. emoticon

Oh yes!! I have felt that pain from swimming! I also use massage envy and now have a gal who can really loosen up my thigh muscles so I can walk more normally. It's all due to a spine twisted by arthritis. Sure wish they could massage that out!

It is amazing when you find muscles that you did not know were there and they will let you know when you work them. Great swim and where do you live so that I can get that massage
