The tale of a good run and a bad run

Monday, June 17, 2013

So when I thought it might be a possibility of running the 10 miler in Disneyworld (it sold out before we could book our trip) I signed up for a half marathon training program on RunKepper. I figured if I could do a half marathon, 10 miles wouldn't be too terribly awful. It's a pretty good program. I run 4 days out of the week. Two of those days are while we are up at the lake camping. So far I've managed to stay on schedule. So Saturday at 5 I decided that since dinner hadn't been started and it was kinda a cool day I would do my jog before dinner instead of after like I have been. It was only a 3 mile slow paced run but I wanted to get it out of the way. Glad I did. First of, I ran in shorts which I'm pretty sure hasn't been done since sometime in the 90's. And probably early 90's at that. What's even more surprises is no painful chafing afterwards!!! Than to top off that accomplishment, I also got under my usual 11 min mile pace. I mean it was 10:58, but hey under is under....

Now for the "bad" run. Sunday is usually my long distance, race pace run. I also usually do this after we get home from the lake and the little one is in bed. But I knew we were going over to my parents Sunday evening for a Father's Day dinner so I didn't know if I'd have time. So instead I stupidly ate 2 pretty big pancakes and a big glass of milk for breakfast and thought "what the hell, it's early, it's not hot yet, and I just ate like a pig! Let's do 5 miles!!" I ended up walking half of my run. My pace sucked for obvious reason. It was just not a good "run".

And I kinda felt like this...

But I did finish. So I guess that is the bright side, even if it's the only bright side.

I love the stampeding turtles saying - that is ME! I am training to do a 5k and I'm sure the friend I am running with will be able to lap me like crazy but I'm doing it!

Uh, I can't run for at least 2 hours after I eat :0) If it makes you feel any better my pace has been totally sucking even when I don't have to walk any of it :0) I'm a little nervous about this 10K Wednesday...but doing it is better than NOT. emoticon emoticon

I've been there! I have felt so slow lately but it seems like the more time I give myself in between runs, the faster I am! Great job, it's better to finish than to not attempt it at all. emoticon
