Until your ready!!

Monday, June 17, 2013

I work with a guy and I talk to him about starting sparkpeople and just starting to get with the program for his health, I'm afraid that if he has to chase someone down he will collapse!! But I have found that until the individual is ready it won't matter what advice you give them. They have to want to kick butt and get sparking!!

I'm not saying to rush in and over do it, I'm saying just do it!! Start take one step in front of the other and walk. Your body will hurt and it won't be easy but once you start moving it's easier to keep it going. Also I've talked to him about cutting out junk food at least until he can have it in moderation and make better choices, this again falls on deaths ears.

I feel as a sparker we have a duty to try to help others and tell them about spark people, because alot of times people want to ask how you are doing it but are afraid to ask, make it easy for people to talk to you once they make the decision to begin!!

I see people walking and they are not in shape and the first thing that goes through my mind is " Way to go, yes one step at a time" because that's how we all started one step in front of the other!!

Lets be positive to the people around me and be an inspiration because you never know who's watching!!!

You can give them all of the information, ideas and set an example however, until they have an AHA moment, then they may be ready. We've been there, putting it off, knowing what we need to do as everything is available and nothing is new. When an alcoholic admits to being an alcohol, everyone else around them already knew! In their own time and continue to be supportive! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

It doesn't even have to be painful, except to the ego that you let yourself go.

Conversion comes from within. But sometimes they wait to be sparked until something devastating happens to themselves or someone they care about. Sad.

My Preacher, when I lived inVirginia, used to say, "Folks won't listen to the answers until they ask the question." Then he taught us how to get them to ask the question. I am sure there are question asking moments. Wondering if information about the "bliss point" junk food manufacturers strive for. Maybe a keep a couple of Spark People printed articles on hand to give the question asker. Even though we tell them Spark People is free, I think they may be skeptical, I know I am when people are very enthusiastic and are offering something to me. Will pray for your coworker.
