Reunion and Vacation

We're back!! We left for my 35th high school reunion and vacation around 1am on June 5th from PA and made it as far as Kingsland, GA before stopping for the night. We continued to Fort Pierce, FL. on the 6th where my reunion was. We stopped for lunch at a Steak and Shake and seated near us was one of my classmates. I couldn't believe it. We went out to dinner that night and found out that his mom went to school with my birth mom. Small world.
The next day, Friday, was registration then what was supposed to be Friday Fest downtown. Because of the threat of t-storms, they cancelled it so we all went to a bar/restraint which was very crowded, so we walked down the street to a different one. It was very noisy and expensive but we made the most of it.
Saturday we met at a park for a catered picnic. It didn't take me long to kick off my shoes and head for the water to stick my feet in. Loved it! Saturday night was the banquet. Very nice!! I danced almost every dance and had so much fun. They had an early bird drawing and I won a nice throw blanket with my school name and 35th reunion on it.
Sunday we all met for breakfast then went to church. After that we had to say our goodbyes. It was hard but there are already plans to do a 40th so I'm going to try to go. We stayed at the hotel that night yet then traveled to the keys on Monday.
Tuesday we stayed most of the day in Key West. Took a glass-bottom boat ride. It cost $40 each but was worth it, it lasted 2 hours. They take you out to the coral reefs. Did you know that coral is a living thing? I did but DH did not and I'm betting many of you didn't know it either.
Wednesday we traveled across the everglades and took an airboat ride and a tram ride. Saw a few alligators, we found out it's the wrong time of year for them to be out. Peak time is December through March. We also saw many different birds. We then had some lunch and while there, it started to rain, so we started to make our way back north to where my oldest son and family lives. We found a place to stay and went to eat supper.
Thursday we spent with DS and family. It was good to catch up and see the grandchildren. We went out to eat that night and he picked up the tab.
Friday we started for home and stopped at a flea market to look around. Found a few items then made our way farther north. Stopped for the night just into South Carolina. We left before 4:30am Saturday morning with the intentions of stopping at whatever we saw interesting but at mile 17, traffic came to a stop. We were at an exit so we got off and found a place for breakfast and filled the car with gas. By the time we did that, traffic was moving again. I drove and we stopped at a discount outlet in North Carolina. Found a few things again and traveled on. But when we got to Virginia, traffic was horrible. It would come to a standstill, then move, then another standstill, then move some more. It stayed like that till we got off of I-95 onto 17 then it was bottle-necked on 17. It took us another 1/2 hour to work our way out of that. After that it wasn't too bad.
We made it home about 7pm Saturday evening. God kept us safe and all in all we had a great trip. We are home for 3 days then we're off for camping starting Thursday through the weekend.
