Things have been really busy lately, but that is a good thing. I was out of town for a few days with Daughter, visiting my parents. Overall, we had a wonderful little vacation. There were a couple of tense moments, one in particular, but we survived. My mom is great but really stresses Daughter (and me) out at times. I honestly think my mom is bipolar. She is just melancholy and quiet one minute and then a goofy chatterbox the next. Anyway, I don't want to get into all that. That isn't why I wanted to write this entry. I had an early Father's Day for my dad while we were there: I got him some dried okra snacks from a place I'd visited last week, and I made him a special breakfast one morning while I was there: homemade skillet buttermilk biscuits and scrambled eggs from my chickens. Then I bought him a six-pack of beer at The Fresh Market, because mom said he's not allowed to buy beer anymore, since he's only teaching one class this summer -- she claims they "can't afford" it, yet she spends hundreds of dollars a week on fancy, expensive, ridiculous foods. So I told him to pick out a six-pack and I'd buy it for him; that way she couldn't give him any crap about it.
So Daughter and I had a great time while we were away. On the way down, it poured BUCKETS. It usually takes a little over 3.5 hours to get there, but it took almost 5, because of the rain. We kept really busy during our visit. I had a whole day for us planned out the day after we arrived. Daughter and I saw a free IMAX movie, toured a museum, went to a Space & Science Center (where we also saw a neat "Astronaut" movie in the planetarium), ate pizza at Mellow Mushroom, spent a couple hours in a pet store, and then did some clothes shopping for Daughter. It was a blast! We spent all day out and about. The next day we drove to Alabama and visited family. We went to my aunt's apartment, went out to lunch, drove around, then went back to Mom & Dad's house. Mom never joins us on these outings because she A) doesn't like my dad's family...she thinks she's too good for them, and B) masks it as something she "can't" do because of her back. When we got back to Mom & Dad's, Daughter and I hung out with Dad while Mom cleaned and cooked. That's just the way it is. Then on Thursday morning, we loaded up the truck with some things they're giving us, and Daughter and I headed back home.
When we got back, we just spent Thursday and Friday relaxing and being glad to be home. Then we went to a Scottish Festival on Saturday and then Father's Day is today. We're having a nice, relaxing, CALM, CHILL day :) Husband wanted Taco Soup for dinner today, so I've got that on the stove. Yum!!
I love what Dorothy said in the Wizard of Oz..."There's no place like home. There's NO PLACE like home."
