Computer issues.

Sunday, June 16, 2013

If you have been following my blog it's a Dell computer that is having issues. I will consider an Apple for replacement. The Dell gave me problems right from the get go when I purchased it. Customer service with Dell was very poor. My DVD drive or CD drive - player was replaced twice and I hardly used it.

I honestly don't think the computer will be fixed when Nerds calls next week. Yes, it will cost in the $200 range to fix it. I will have to learn more details. I don't understand computer talk so it's hard to understand what they are doing for the virus.

I did order a Amazon Kindle Fire HD so I can get on the web at least I hope I can. It's an inexpensive compared to a computer right now. I am not sure all that one can do with them. They were on sale the other day. It will be here Monday while I am still waiting for Nerds to finish working on the Dell. At least I can watch some movies on it.

I need to research Apples to see if I can download movies on to it off of youtube and daily motion to watch. If it can do that and my workout downloads from other sites that I have ordered I will be thrilled.

I am the gorilla tester for samsonite luggage (
iU2Zv1kw), so the MacAir was the machine for me (2 years ago). I have not damaged it yet, which is in itself amazing. The macbooks need a lighter touch. My still runs (5 years old), but I dont dare take it out of the house.

Are you going desktop or laptop?

I hope you blog about your shopping so I can live vicariously through your purchase! My mac air will hold up as long as the software, so no purchases for several more years until the chip cant support the latest OS.

When I took my Gateway computer to Geek Squad to add a bigger hard drive, they kept it for a couple of days and insisted that I purchase the Kaspersky Anti-Virus even though I already had System Mechanic Professional. When I got my computer back they said they had updated it. If that had been true, then how come I had to get more than 200 updates from Windows??? Well, it started having problems immediately and there was no way I was going to let the Geek Squad work on it again, so the only thing left to do was to crash it on purpose and rebuild it myself. That way I got ALL my programs and updates installed. AND I got to have the Anti-Virus that I wanted instead of the one Geek Squad wanted me to have. (By-the-way, Geek Squad would not give me a refund for the other anti-virus they put in the computer even though I didn't want it.)

I was considering getting a Dell computer to replace this one but since I read the comments on here about the customer service, I think I'll just stick with this one.

Hope your computer worries will be taken care of soon with a happy outcome for you. emoticon

Hate to see your computer still down. If it's 200 it's definitely not worth fixing at this point. Hope you are able to get a replacement soon.

Had to fix my computer a little while ago. Glad it was a minor repair of the same couple of hundred dollars.

i have not, thankfully, had problems with my computers. but i have to say, desktops cost around 400 new, 800 if you go with the latest OS. spending 200 or more to fix an old machine? i wouldn't. if you've had to replace drives, you've already spent enough to get a tablet. dump it and dump the nerds who can't get to you for a couple of days.

Nerds don't seem to consider you a priority. IMHO, they are more of the problem than the brand of computer. My tech person has never needed more than a day to fix a problem.

Years ago I had a Mac, and I had nothing but problems with it. It was in the shop frequently and then soon bit the dust even though it was only a couple of years old and hadn't had that much use.

About 8 years ago I got a small HP which is still running but really really slow. And, about 5 years ago I got a large HP which I have used a LOT, and is still running really good. And about a year and a half ago I got a Toshiba laptop which I have also used TONS and love it.

These last 2 I got programmed to what I wanted on 'em.

I get wonderful tech service from Staples. Well, most of the time I have. They now have a new manager who leaves something to be desired...

Apples are fun toys. But the price isn't worth it for my uses.

My first computer at home was a Dell. It didn't work. The tech guy from Dell came out and said the hard drive was not right nor working properly. He ended up talking to someone at Dell arguing that a whole knew hard drive was needed. He got the satisfaction we needed to get the computer working, but I would never get another Dell again. I now go to Milw. PC and get my computer designed to what I want in it. Good Luck.

actually I have a Dell, and do not have any problems with it, my problem is AT&T/UVerse my internet provided, and it is always their fault that I am off line, and they won't just come and fix it, the last time took 4 days, this time only 1 day, but really why not come when they accidentally undo your wire while working on a different line come right back and fix it, oh not that is not the way they work, so needless to say, today is my DH's birthday as well as Fathers Day, he did get his phone calls, but late, because our phone works line and internet are the same, I guess, anyway, back on today, and still not too happy.
hope you get your problems ironed out soon, I know nothing about Apples, but only hear good stuff.

Apples tend to be very reliable. As a matter of fact, I went back to Mac with my most recent computer after a Dell, an HP and a Gateway.

Good luck getting your computer fixed. I just go and buy a new inexpensive one when my old one dies. Not very good for the landfills though.

We have Apples and love the products .... just go to an Apple Store near you and tell them what you want and they will advise you as to what you need. I first had the apple mac mini and used one of my old monitors and it has been great .... we have Mac air laptops and apple TV (which I adore !! -- we don't have cable so it provides hours of entertainment) .....     Sorry you are having so much trouble with your computer. We have had Dell computers with no problems, but, of course, there is always an occasional lemon. The Apple computers are very nice but don't forget that they don't sync will with a lot of Microsoft (or so I have heard). I have an iPhone5 and have really loved all of my iPhones, but I have had nothing but trouble getting it to sync to any of the other computer/electronic devices that we have because they are not Apple products. Good luck !

It sounds like Dell's customer service hasn't improved any in the past 15 years since we had one! We have gotten totally ripped off by the Geek Squad in the past. I usually wind up just getting a new computer when mine crashes.

My friend is a computer expert and I told him about your plight when I read it yesterday. He just shook his head and said that there is no reason to have a computer that long to diagnose. You can tell what's wrong within a couple of hours, if that. You must be using the Geek Squad - notoriously ripping off people. Chances are, at this point, they will not fix it and you'd be smart to invest that money in a new computer. If it's malware, you just reinstall windows. If you have any questions, just send them to me and I'll ask him for you. I have seen nothing but problems with Dell computers, and their customer service is beyond awful. Lenovo (sp?) is said to have a good product at good prices, but that's just what I've heard. Hope you enjoy the Kindle Fire HD. Love mine.
