Mrs Grove's Pastries

Sunday, June 16, 2013

My co-worker brought in Mrs. Grove's Pastries for us today.

Mrs Grove's is a mom and pop bakery that is only open 3 days a week (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) from 6am until they run out of goodies (which can sometimes be noon, but is usually around 9) People line up in order to get cinnamon rolls and monkey bread.

I haven't had Mrs Grove's in years. When I lived in Altoona, I used to make it a frequent Saturday or Sunday thing, but since I moved in 2007, I have not had the opportunity to indulge in their ooeey-gooey goodness until today. I had a piece of monkey bread, and topped it with their peanut butter "butter" (which is like a frosting, but not as sweet) It is an experience I can not begin to describe... to say it was absolutely, amazingly delicious would be an understatement. It was like a gala affair in my mouth!

This is where the moderation thing comes into play. I wouldn't "spend" the calories on a tasty cake, but a homemade baked treat made by three local ladies? Heck yes! And I enjoyed every sinful bite!

That sounds fantastic! Nothing wrong with having that once in a while!

What the use of having these wonderful treats if one is going to beat themselves up. Go enjoy the treats...just not every day and those home made special one are so worth the calories. We just have to modify the balance of our food intake.

I read the first line as pasties. I was wondering. LOL.

Should you beat yourself up for not having the treat you really wanted or should you beat yourself up for straying a bit off track but really enjoying it? Life is short, sometimes we have to eat dessert first! Enjoy your treat and make accommodations, no poiint in being really miserable for having foregone it. And, oh yeah,

Make Today the Best Day of Your Life,
