"These are my salad days, slowly being eaten away." --- "Gold", Spandau Ballet
Eat a healthy salad is the challenge today.
My usual salads are probably not 100 calories. More? No!
I don't use dressing or cheese.
The recommended salad is:
1-2 cups low-calorie lettuce and vegetables, such as Romaine or leafy greens, onion, radishes, carrot, celery, cucumbers and tomato (total 25-50 calories)
1-2 tablespoons of low-fat cheese (total 25-50 calories)
1-2 tablespoons light salad dressing (total 25-50 calories)
I have never liked cheese in or on salad, so I'm unlikely to start now. Also, if I do feel that I want to adulterate my fresh crisp salad vegetables, I would probably use balsamic or red wine vinegar, or lemon juice. And if I have calories available, some cold pressed olive oil that we buy locally that is so heavenly you could drink it.
When I have cheese, I like to have small amounts of special cheeses with sourdough bread. Obviously, a sometimes food.
The last couple of weeks we have eaten low-fat (80% less fat) cheese. And, well, it tastes like cheese. But unless we needed the texture, for example, melted, I could probably leave it out. So far, I have only been able to find one brand of low-fat cheese in the supermarket. The only reason we got it this week, is because it was half price, and I said I wanted to repeat the recipes from the last two weeks.
Day 2 of my streak coming to a close today. I didn't go to Tai Chi this morning, but I've kept on my feet for most of the day and done 50 wall pushups. I found out today that I can do 20 wall pushups in one set. Yay, go me.
