I woke up to a quiet house. That seems to be the way things are now. They’re grown and scattered. A few of them are asleep in the living room. Matt and our granddaughter Ava stayed in Louisville. Today is dad’s day at the zoo, a tradition began when Johnny and Matt where very, very young. Paul and our daughter-in-law Geena are spending the day getting the nursery ready and she’s at that time in her pregnancy when any travel is uncomfortable. John will be over for dinner. That leaves three of them – Maggie, Katie and Tim here with us this morning.
I am so very blessed. That’s all that goes through my mind. I have so many amazing memories of them as kids, the construction paper cards, key holders and hand prints…… I had to laugh when I opened my email this morning – Many E-Cards from the kids. Isn’t technology grand? They don’t even have to go to the post office any longer.
I rolled over in bed about an hour ago and said to Joan, “You know, these kids have made it really easy for me to be a good dad.”
So this morning, bright and early, before everything gets rolling I want to tip my hat to each of them and say ‘Thank-You.” It’s been a pleasure and honor to be your dad.
