Day 1: Battle against the food dragon

Saturday, June 15, 2013

This morning I started off really well. I had a bowl of oatmeal, 1 banana, and a cup of nonfat milk. A really great breakfast! Proud of myself! After an hour or so I went for a 40 minute brisk walk. I walked two miles. I am learning to listen to my body, so I knew 40 minutes was plenty for today. I got home and began cleaning. Seem to have more energy than usual. Well, what do you know....exercise increases energy level! Of course I know that, but have chosen to ignore it. I ate a grilled cheese and v-8 juice for lunch. Not bad. Now is where the food dragon began to beat down the barrier for today. I had stuff in the cupboard to make an apple pie. Guess what I did? Yes, made the pie. The whole time I was excusing myself for making it, saying things like I might as well go ahead and get it over with to get it out of the house. Right...I just plain wanted to eat it. Well, I did have a piece. A fairly large piece. Now, some may say the Food Dragon won today, but I don't think so. In the past I would have eaten as much as I could and then thrown the rest away. Instead I left it alone and several hours later had my daughter take it to her friends house. For dinner I had a cup of hamburger helper (not the best choice), and stopped at that instead of eating about 4 cups, which is typical for me. After reflecting on the day I am counting today as a victory!: Nevergiveup51 - 1 and Food Dragon - 0. SLAY THE FOOD DRAGON!
I added a ticker today for breaking a habit. The habit is overeating. I have so many goals, but I believe beating the Food Dragon will open up the paths for me to meet other goals on my way to having a healthy lifestyle. emoticon

You should definitely count today as a victory. You made better decisions today than you have in the past. That is very good progress, my friend. You are on the right track. Keep it up!

Yeah, go ahead and eat just a little of the temptation, cause if you don't when you do probably give in you'll end up pigging out.

Sometimes it is best to have something the body is craving than to try and resist it. you had the pie and now it's gone.

    tomorrow is a new day
