Control yourSELF

Saturday, June 15, 2013

The words "control yourself" are a common thought suggestion among those of us trying to lose weight. Today it has given me another way to refocus my efforts. I know I could use as much of that as possible.
My state is pretty much on fire right now. I don't mean that to be heartless but to make the point that a few forrest areas, some of the main reasons many love New Mexico is being destroyed by mother nature. She is pretty mad at us right now but that's a whole other topic. Today I made the trip in to Albuquerque to run some errands. In a busy parking lot, a couple was walking in front of me toward the store entrance and the young lady says - P.U. this air is awful, I wish those firefighters would put those fires out already. It took everything I had not to ram her with my shopping cart and begin to explain how many forrest acres, communities, homes, families, LIVES have been lost and effected by what she only had to say "P.U." about! I had already ignored the fact that she, like many see a fat lady and suddenly become anxious to get around. She had already done the whole huff and puff freeway style cut off so she wouldn't have to be behind me. I'm pretty used to that, as many of us more overweight people are, but after her ignorant comment, I had to stop, take a different direction and calm myself down. I had to remember my own advice to my first grade students -- "You cannot MAKE somebody be more respectful, they have to be shown how and choose a different behavior because their heart tells them to..... you can be a good example but you can only completely control yourself." Once I decided to take a few breaths and refocus on my shopping mission, I realized I've got my own health and program to focus on right now. That's enough and I do have control over that. Miss P.U. will just have to take a lesson in respect from somebody else. Were I more stressed out or tired at the time, the grocery cart police may have had to make an appearance but I'm grateful that these are the days I just leave it all up to KARMA.

Every time I forget to pause and open my mouth without, I regret it. Kudos to you 'cause karma does find us!

Good grief! How can that woman live here and be so clueless about the fires? I'm also a little surprised that she was complaining about air quality. I think we have been incredibly lucky here to have not gotten smoke like we did for the AZ fires a couple years ago! That was distressing, but certainly not the fault of the fire fighters. I am glad you were able to restrain yourself, had I been there, I might have been making very loud comments about idiots and brave firefighters.
