Relaxing with a pot of coffee before family arrives. Everything is calm, food is ready; DH has the yard looking welcoming and very nice.

Sounds lovely, organized. Grabbed 5 hours sleep this morning, after cooking through the night. It was that or have things hectic day of. I was having none of that after enough hosted family events like that. Just once, I wanted to be able to sit and enjoy time with our family guests. I feel sleep deprived, though, so I hope I get my second wind soon. Still, I am pleased that the house is calm, ready and waiting, and all of the food is ready.

I thought my menu was simple: pulled pork, black bean burgers, baked beans, cornbread, lentil cracked wheat salad; the green salad, mac & cheese, desserts (2) & appetizers are contributions by others, although I made a batch of guacamole and put a plate of shrimp together. It sure didn't feel simple for me. I misjudged my ingredients and ran to WalMart twice: 1 am and 4 am. I was surprised that people are shopping then....I needn't have worried about being mugged after all.

How people can host events like these things so seemingly effortlessly eludes me. I got the pulled pork and lentil salad done the day before, thank goodness. One day I am going to pull it off....don't know when, but it's on the bucket list. I will keep trying til I get it right.

I noticed my back has a tolerance level of 4 hours of standing. It's the first time I really paid attention to my body's reaction during a food marathon. Something to keep in mind if I want to have a "pain free event" and that would also be a first. I had to keep going so my back is mighty sore....time to down some ibuprofen...so I won't groan or wince every time I move while company is here.

Spark friend....I will catch up with you tomorrow....time to hop in the shower, get dressed, and look like a perky "hostess with the mostest." The weather is fantastic, sunny, and in the mid 70s. Blessings.

Have a terrific Saturday!
