Summer Challenge

Saturday, June 15, 2013

Here I am at the start of the summer BL challenge. We have to blog about our goals for this challenge. I always have a hard time with this blog, because I have been stuck for so long.
I saw my sleep doctor recently, to talk about my latest sleep test. She said to me she was not even going to talk to me about my weight, because she knows I am doing all that I can and at least I am maintaining. She believes if I was not being so diligent I would be gaining. She really summed it up perfectly.
I make healthy choices, I eat within my calorie range, I exercise consistently, I change things up, I eat mindfully, I drink lots of water, I track all my food and exercise, I wear a fitbit and heart rate monitor, I get plenty of sleep, and I have a hobby I enjoy.
SO I guess my goals for this summer are to keep doing what I am doing.
At times it is hard not to get discouraged. I want to say, nothing I am doing makes any difference so why not just eat something sweet? But then I step back and think about how much healthier and stronger I am from all I have done in the past four years, and how much I have accomplished.
I am happy to say I am still here, still trying and hope to some day get to ONe-derland.

You are living a healthy lifestyle and that's so incredibly important. Just think where you may be if you had given up. You are doing amazingly well and are such a great friend to the rest of us! Without a doubt, you are proof positive that consistency and making these habits "forever habits" is the best approach and that it does work.

Your statement about not seeing results and wanting to give up really hits home. I haven't reached the point of being able to say "look how far I've come"yet, but I'm going to keep plugging away until I reach that point. Thank you for sharing your goals and being an inspiration.

Four years ago, after losing 50 pounds, I was put on a steroid regimen for a health issue. I gained 49 of the 50 pounds back and I felt discouraged. I lost 20 but couldn't seem to lose the remaining 30. I was on that plateau for 2.5 years. Finally I joined Weight Watchers in September 2012. Since that time I've lost 31 pounds. My weight does bounce around due to sodium intake but I'm making progress. The reason I'm telling you this, is because even though I weigh the same amount as I did in 2009, I'm much smaller. My doctor attributes this to many internal changes that my body has made. I think that my internal changes aren't even finished yet! As I continue to lose and change I'm sure that I will plateau again like you. I agree that it is both frustrating and discouraging. My guess is that your body is busy making internal changes. You are most likely much smaller than you were last year even though you are about the same weight. My new approach to my frequent plateaus is to get out the measuring tape, try on clothes that used to be tight and keep pushing forward. You have been so inspiring and supportive to me and to others that I'd like to offer some support to you in return. You are such an amazing woman, Ruthie! I am delighted to see that your photography is getting noticed! You deserve all the accolades that you receive for your wonderful pictures!

Ruthie, I bet once you and your Dr. at the sleep clinic improve your sleep you will get to onederland! You are so right, you are living a healthy lifestyle. It is better to be a healthy heavier person then an unhealthy skinny person. I remember when I joined the gym, I said something about being too emoticon emoticon fat to the owner and he said to me he has seen too many skinny people that can not walk up stairs so don't use my weight to define my level of fitness.
