Taking meds for Thyroid

Saturday, June 15, 2013

I didn't gain weight until I started taking the meds for my thyroid. I think I want to boycott the damn meds. I get tired of taking a pill everyday. I get tired of not being able to lose this weight. Today is day 3 that I have willingly decided NOT to take the stupid meds. I am so angry that I was NOT overweight, I did NOT feel bad, I did NOT know anything was wrong with me and 8 years ago I am told I have a horribly low thyroid level. I start taking meds and here I am 75 pounds heavier!!!! It makes me so angry. My biggest fear is that some dumb hormonal goiter is going to grow out of my neck or something. :(

Meds are tricky. I have always been heavy, was told I had low thyroid, put on meds, but it didn't help. I was told I had diabetes, put on Metformin and started losing weight (50lbs in 4 month), was taken off cause I was doing so well I wasn't in the diabetic range any more. The weight slowly came back. I asked the doctor if the weight loss was related to the Metformin and was told no. Four years later, most of the weight was back and all my levels (blood sugar, triglycerides, HDL, LDL and liver enzymes) were back up. I just found out I have Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome which it turns out is also treated with Metformin and explains why I lost all that weight and my levels all went to normal ranges for the first time in my life. Unfortunately, the Gyn won't treat me for it because I already have diabetes and the regular doctor won't treat me because it's a gyn problem, so now I have to wait until mid-September before I can see an endocrinologist about it. I totally understand your frustration.
