Just left the rehab center where mom is staying...

Friday, June 14, 2013

Just left mom at the rehab center. While I was there she had dinner.

She ate 1/2 of a baked potato along with a wedge of cornbread that she did not really care for. She said it was too crumbly and looked to both of us like it was the sweet kind that we don't care for.

She also ate about 1/2 of a slice of lemon meringue pie.

When I go back up to see her again, she wants me to take her a cheeseburger from McDonald's as they said she can have anything she wants within reason according to her diabetes.

Her levels have been around 250 for the past two days. And while that is dangerous, for her that used to be the average reading.

Also she tried so hard to stay awake for me while I was there and I told her that she did not have to be awake for me.

So overall she is doing good where she is right now.

Will update again over the weekend.

I work in rehab and know they will want her strong to participate. Please make sure to encourage her to keep her nutrition but limit high fat and sugar as these can have a negative effect. If she stays active a hamburger is good! Keep her up and going if you can. Some people get depressed when they are moved into rehab, so please keep the family coming, so she won't feel abandoned. You can multi-task and work out with her. Just ask some of the rehab staff for exercise ideas for the two of you. Just walking the halls or making a trip outside is great for everyone. A little sunshine will go a long way!

    Good for you Lance!
It gives you peace of mind to know she's doing good where she is, doesn't it?
Hope you will share about your cookbook!
Maybe you could make your Mom a special treat. It's a good sign if she wants a cheeseburger- she's getting her appetite back.
Take care of yourself & make yourself a treat from your new cookbook-reward yourself for handling all the pressure, stress, etc...something within your point are doing so great!
Also, when I was in the nursing home/rehab my Son used to bring me treats like sugar-free chocolate candy & a big bag of mini carrots to munch between meals because those places don't have good food. I'm diabetic also, so she may want some snack treats.
