Friday - 25 days post surgery

Friday, June 14, 2013

Well I have graduated to one crutch this week. Makes moving around and getting my food so much easier. Sleeping has improved a lot but still find myself occasionally crashing in the afternoon. My appetite has come back in force - I'm constantly hungry. I'm not denying myself the calories (which is right now double what I normally eat) because I expect its there for a reason to help the healing.

The bruising on my upper thigh is so much better and the incision looks real nice. No matter how many times I think about it I still can't get over the use super glue to keep the incision closed. My nurse says there are dissolvable stitches underneath which I can feel if I rub across the incision a raised piece but comparing it to the right hip done 18 months ago I know it will go away over time.

Wednesday I see the surgeon for my first post-op. I'm hoping I get the okay to go back into the water. I'm not planning to do outpatient PT - like last time, but that was dependent on me getting back to my own routine which is swimming.

One thing I did learn is that all that tea I normally drink each day must bind me up big time. Given the forced diet I've been on due to lack of mobility and relying on my DH to make my meals, my tea intake has gone down significantly. I don't recall ever being so regular in my life. Ahh the small joys in life.

My dad is a surgeon and he would use superglue on cuts all the time when we were kids!

We are nearing the end of our bathroom remodel so we will have a brief break before my DH has his hip surgery.
We read your recovery journey - thanks for sharing
Hope you get a "water" release from the dr!!!!

Caffeine is supposed to help you be more regular, from what I heard. Maybe it's just that' you're eating more. I can't believe it's been 25 days! To you, I'm sure it seems that long, but to me, it's just evidence that time marches on whether or not we follow along. Hoping you can get back into the water soon! Have you rubbed Grapeseed Oil into the incision site? That is supposed to help fade scarring.
