Thought and Prayer for Friday, June 14, 2013

When we give into temptation, we aren’t relying on God to guide us through the struggles and the issues of life. God wants to and will guide us away from temptation and guard us from evil when we allow His Holy Spirit to work through us. He can help us overcome being afraid and unsure. He can make us willing and able. However, we have to be self-disciplined and continue to stay aware of His power and love to get us through all temptations.

2 Timothy 1:7 “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” (NLT)

Dear Lord, when we lean on You in all things, there will be no doubt Who we need to trust during the temptations of life. When we create conversations with You throughout the day to guide and guard us, there will be no wondering about what to do when hard times come. When we read Your word every day, we will have Your words as our power and strength to resist temptation. Help us to be purposefully living for You and preparing for the next temptation knowing You will be with us, guiding us through it and guarding us from evil. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

If we aren’t aware of God’s word, it’s hard to apply it to our lives.

God wants to guard us from evil with His power, love and strength. All we have to do is allow Him to.

God wants to guide us through the struggles in life with His wisdom and understanding. All we have to do is rely on Him.

Temptation is harder to resist when are minds are filled with worldly things rather than godly ones.

Temptation comes in all forms. We can better recognize and resist when we stay aware of God’s word, aren’t afraid and depend on His power and love to get us through.

God doesn’t allow us to encounter anything that He knows we can’t handle. He wants us to take the right action when we are tempted.

1 Corinthians 10:13b “And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.” (NLT)
