I Was On a Break!!!!

Remember that scene from TV's "Friends" where Ross and Rachel are seemingly back together again after Rachel write Ross that letter? (18 pages...FRONT AND BACK!!!) And when Rachel attempts to praise Ross for taking responsibility for his actions, by justifying "If time is what you needed to gain a little perspective..." Ross (who unwittingly agreed to the terms of the letter) exclaims, "WE WERE ON A BREAK!!"

Okay....so I was on a break - from whatever plan I had in mind for losing 30lbs by the end of July. I was feeling overwhelmed by doing too much and needed the rest; plus, I'm in the throes of a time-sucking career commitment, so I opted to take the time. But, I was devastated the other day when I discovered that I hadn't lost as much as I'd hoped - only 8lbs - and it seemed *nothing* had changed.

I started scouring the Spark site for motivation, validation, somethingorotherivation so I wouldn't feel so bummed out about it all. I mean, it's not like I hadn't put the WORK in!!

I went to my SparkPage and noticed my ticker. From the time I started to the time I expected to have met my goal, I anticipated a 32lb change. I've lost 8lbs. BUT - that's 1/4 of the way there. 25% of my goal has been met! It's the whole "Glass Half-Empty/Half-Full" thing. I could be 75% behind, or 25% ahead.

So - what do I do now? Where do I go from here? Once my time-suck is done, I'll have the time to get back to the gym, back to the freshly-home-made meals, back to the better-quality night's sleep...back to the goal. The goal date may have changed, but I'm still ahead!! emoticon

See?? All I needed was a little perspective!!

    Well, well, well... got on the scale this morning and it said I lost almost 2lbs since the last time I stepped upon its cold, steely, platform...

Stunned. Glad. Hopeful.

    For sure it is all about perspective! Eight pounds lost is so much better than if you had GAINED 8 pounds. Sometimes we want our weight off fast and we just need to remember that any increase in making our bodies healthier is a great stepping stone. So even if some weeks nothing changes, remember that the exercise, the eating well, is simply making your body healthy regardless of the scale.
