Grasping For Happiness

Thursday, June 13, 2013

According to Merriam-Webster the definition of HAPPINESS is:

1). obsolete : good fortune : PROSPERITY
2a). a state of well-being and contentment
b). a pleasurable or satisfying experience

Synonyms For Happiness:

elatedness, elation, exhilaration, exultation, high, intoxication; ecstasy, euphoria, glory, heaven, nirvana, paradise, rapture, rapturousness, ravishment, seventh heaven, transport; delectation, delight, enjoyment, pleasure; cheer, cheerfulness, comfort, exuberance, gaiety (also gayety), gladsomeness, glee, gleefulness, jocundity, jollity, joyfulness, joyousness, jubilance, jubilation, lightheartedness, merriness, mirth; content, contentedness, gratification, satisfaction, triumph

I don't know what the point of writing all of that is, but I guess I just want to put it out in the universe so that I could grasp it, so that it could be mine. I'd like to claim it for myself, instead of watching others experience it. Perhaps I'm never satisfied, perhaps I'm not grateful, I don't know anymore.

This little girl was extremely happy, I must get back to that.

I must fight for the happiness, come hell or high water.

We choose to be happy, luv. I know theres a lot of struggle, a lot of negativity, even hormonal imbalances, that keep us from being able to choose happiness but someday, someday soon, it will get easier. U are taking steps to ensure that u reach ur happiness, and altho it may be scary, they are necessary for u to come to a place of contentment. I love you babygirl!

Start with picking one thing that was positive and remotely made you happy. Write it down and add to the list daily. Soon you will see you have a lot to be happy for. I have #1 for you.

And you were singing, too, at such a tender age! All of those synonyms seem to be the extreme types of happiness, though - for me, happiness is more of a low-key thing - serenity, acceptance, contentment. So, if we're looking for the "way up there" type of happiness, we might miss the more subtle type.

Excellent blog and a great philosophical question. That gorgeous little girl was very happy because she had no worries, no judgements, and no negative outside influences. She was living in the moment of her own beautiful world.

I believe that most of us let too many external things influence our happiness and so we forget to live in the moment and grasp all the joy from that moment like that little girl. We live for tomorrow or we allow the negativity of yesterday bring us down. I am very bad about allowing myself to fall into that trap. Perhaps if we focus upon living in the moment and drink in all the positive things about that moment, then we can allow ourselves to be happy.

I hope this is making sense. I wrote it as much for myself as everyone else. Thank you for writing this blog and forcing me to think about this.

I am having a hard time grasping happiness again myself, as is my husband. We both used to be fairly content with life, but not right now...

She was happy because she had no JUDGMENT, no ATTACHMENT and no EXPECTATION :-) These three rob us of PEACE, JOY and LOVE in reverse proportion. The more of the first three we have, the less we exprerience the latter three. She was actually WAY wiser than most adults :-). And she is CUTE AS A BUG IN A RUG!!!! :-)))))))))) What a SMILE!!! It's still there....

LOVE YOU MISSB B!!!
