TEMPTED TO BE SILENT
There are many people whom we don’t want to talk to. We don’t want to talk to for whatever reason. We many not have time for them, we may not like them or we may not want to reach out to them. When we think about all the things we are tempted to do, we usually think about temptations that cause us to take action or say things we shouldn’t. However, we can often be tempted to be silent. Being silent, saying nothing, is also an action and when we are tempted to be silent when we should speak, we need to ask God to help us get past that temptation and speak out according to His will.
Acts 18:9 “One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision and told him, ‘Don’t be afraid! Speak out! Don’t be silent!’” (NLT)
Dear Lord, help us today to speak when You lead us to speak. Help us to say what You tell us to say. Whether it is having a hard conversation with someone about something they shouldn’t be doing, or saying hello to someone we don’t like, help us to say the loving, kind and caring words that You want us to say. Help us to put our fear and judgment aside so we can be the person You want us to be. Put caring, kind and loving words in our minds and hearts so we will have the right words to say at the right time. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
There are times we need to remain silent; however, there are times when we need to speak up.
Not speaking to someone because they are not speaking to us is giving in to temptation.
We have to be the bigger person when someone is not speaking to us showing kindness through our words and actions, no matter what.
We are to look for opportunities to speak to others who may not want to speak to us because God may have a purpose for our efforts to give them a kind word.
When we speak to only people we liked to be around, then we aren’t living as God wants us to live.
We can’t always be silent when God has something for us to say.
Proverbs 16:23 “From a wise mind comes wise speech; the words of the wise are persuasive.” (NLT)
