Half Marathon Training

So, I am in week three of my marathon training. It has been going so well that I decided to sign up for the half marathon option instead of the 5k. Talk about a big leap of faith!! The race is not until December, so I figure I have plenty of time to train properly. I know I am not going to sweep the competition or anything, but I do know that I will feel fantastic just because I am able to accomplish something that I never thought I will never be able to do. I always viewed runners as insane..but a good insane. They are so confident, driven, determined, happy, faithful...the list of descriptions can go on and on. I was never a runner because I thought I could not just run forever and not be tired. I read the running magazines and check out all the cool motivational gear. Then I decided to give myself a break and said " Why not give it a try?" So I the wrong shoes and totally tried to run like an Olympian. I was in dreaded pain. I should have known better since I do keep up with the ins and outs of running. Though I was in pain, I felt successful! I felt joy and confidence that I never knew existed within me.
I get it now. I understand the joy of running and the joy that runners have. I feel so accomplished. Even though I am still in a walk run phase, it makes me feel good within to know that I have what it takes. If you ever felt like you could never do something whether it be swimming, running, managing a company, or whatever you secretly desire to do, just go out there and give it your all to the best of YOUR ability and no one else's. You are your own person. Just be an amazing you. That is the first rule and realization I learned since running. P.S- I invested in some great shoes when I started the training program. Asics Kayano 19's!! They are amazing! I plan on buying some Nike's and Saucony's. I am now hooked on workout gear:)

    Way to go on the half marathon training! I started training for halfs seven years ago. You do get hooked and it is such a rush when you cross that finish line. I too am an exercise clothing/shoe junkie. emoticon
