Runkeeper App ?

Wednesday, June 12, 2013

How accurate is the app? I found it to be off according to the SP map tracker. I mapped my route and I get 2.06ish miles round trip. I used the app today and it read 4.14 miles. What is up?

I do not know what info to use.

I use the RunKeeper app on my iPhone all the time and I have found it to be quite accurate, unless I am doing a repeated out-n-back run (same stretch of road, over & over). Even then, it might only drop a tenth of a mile over the course of 4 miles. It can also drop mileage when I'm running trails in the mountains, probably due to poor signal. But on the roads, on a loop course, I have found it to be very accurate.

I have not used the SP mapping (I didn't even know it existed) so I can't give you any comparison.

It looks like one of them doubled the route maybe? Was it set on "out and back" when you mapped it? I find the SP route mapper hard to use. To find route distances, I use mapmyrun.com. It is much easier to use, it is easier to correct a mistake or reroute around a detour and it has a nice "follow roads" option that will follow along your road as it curves around the neighborhood instead of clicking lots of short straight sections along one route.

How long did it take you? If you normally run a 10 min mile and it took you 20 minutes, then the SP mapper is right.
