dorijane's back--good and bad news

Wednesday, June 12, 2013

hi all--we went to the chiro vet today and he examined dorijane after a week on crate rest and her increased pain meds that we got from our regular vet. the good news is--her neck is fine. this is really good news because we were really afraid that it was getting worse--but her flexion and range of motion is fine. the pain is all in her lower back, and its pretty severe. he started her on a new acupuncture regimen (needles in different spots) and a different set of laser points. he also adjusted her spine in about 4 places. we think she injured herself by doing some unsupervised flying around and digging when we were in the process of moving the baby chicks outside. our regular vet tells us that the lower back heals more quickly than the neck, so that's a positive too. today she seems very sore and quiet--but oftentimes the day after her chiro appt. she acts a little quieter. now we just have to be patient and wait for the laser to work--it seems to help a lot. she is my happy go lucky girl and it is such a torment for me to see her this way. I want my silly girl back!
short run today and cindy is coming to help weed. time to get up and at it! have a great day.

I hope she gets better quickly, too! I'm wondering, is dorijane overweight at all? Would helping her to lose a pound or two help her back? I know it does with people! Just wondering! How are the chicks doing in their new environs? You had called them "chooks" in a previous post, and it reminder me of a favorite old nursery rhyme:

    Chook, chook. chook, chook, chook!
    Good morning, Mrs. Hen!
How many chicks have you got?
    Madam, I've got ten.
    Four of them are yellow,
and four of them are brown,
and two of them are speckled -
    The nicest in the town!
