Welcome back to our ongoing study, “Practicing the Presence of God”. This study we will continue on with Part 2, “Walking in the Spirit”.
Last lesson we discovered that to walk in the Spirit was to invite God in to every part of our lives. To be in an attitude of expectation, looking and expecting to hear from God and for our lives to be impacted with His presence in our everyday lives.
Our Theme Scripture Verse is taken from Galatians 5:16-17
Verse 16: I say then; Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
Verse 17: For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.
Let us compare the following 2 Scripture Texts:
Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead be filled with the Spirit. Speak to one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
The scripture admonishes us not to get drunk with wine but to be filled with the Spirit of God.
When we walk after the flesh we will produce the works of the flesh.
If we are filled with God’s Spirit we will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh.
Walking in the Spirit will produce in us a desire to be filled with more of God.
Walking in the Spirit is to be filled with more of Christ, filled with spiritual singing, filled with God’s Word and filled with the Fruit of God’s Holy Spirit.
God’s Word is admonishing us to “Walk in the Spirit” that whatever we do we should do it all in the Name of Jesus with a grateful and thankful heart to the Glory of God.
Something to Ponder: Quote by Walter Rusnell: 1981
“Before we can make any progress in our Spiritual Walk, we must become established in the consciousness of our union with Christ”.
The key to Walking in the Spirit is simple, we take our eyes off ourselves and put our eyes on Christ. Focusing on Christ who will lead us in everything we do.
Walking in the Spirit is “Abiding in the Unbroken Fellowship of God”.
When we are “Walking in the Spirit” we are in “Step with God”. Totally Focused and Conscious of God’s Presence.
We have concluded our series in “Practicing the Presence of God, Part 2 Walking in the Spirit.
This study concludes our study on Practicing the Presence of God. I believe it has been an exciting journey as we drew closer to Jesus as we learned how to Practice God’s Presence in our every day life. I challenge you to stay close to Jesus and continue on each day and practice God’s Presence in your day to day lives.
