I started training for my 10K and was doing awesome... was running 3-5 times a week and was getting a good pace down... was running anywhere from a 11-13 minute mile for 2-3 miles, with some walking in between.
My training completely stopped on April 26th, when I found out that my mom had gone missing.
We've had searches and have come up empty handed. No.. she does not suffer from Alzheimer's. She does, however, suffer from depression.
After coming up empty handed with the searches, and some advice from my councelor... I decided I was going to go ahead and run the 10K and do it in honor of my Mom. I taped her picture to the back of my bib, loaded the ipod with my mom's favorite songs and went to pick up my race packet.
I went to the race with the goal to run/walk it and finish... I had only ran 3x in the 6 weeks that my mom had disappeared.
Then I ran/walked and did the best that I could. I ran a 10 min mile my very first mile and I've never in my life ran a 10 min mile!!
I'm so proud of myself for completing the process...I finished in 1:21:37, which was pretty good! As I crossed the finish line... my sister texted me that my mom's favorite song was on the radio! I think she was with me!
