Self Control & My Mouth - Part II

Monday, June 10, 2013

The bottom line is this. Eventually, over the course of my life I came to realize that pleasing God was more important to me than pleasing myself!

I read over and over in the Scriptures how the tongue is evil and we must have control over our mouth and tongue.

Psalm 141:3 ESV: Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips!

Proverbs 21:23 ESVL: Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps himself out of trouble.

Psalm 34:13 ESV: Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking deceit.

Psalm 141:3 ESV: Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips!

One day it all clicked! It was an ah-ha moment. It was a humbling moment.
I didn't have control over what went out of my mouth at all but then...how could I when I couldn't even control what I put in it!!!

On that day, I began taking great care with what I put in my mouth in the hopes to gain control over what comes out of it! I have lost 22 lbs since then but even better I have found that the words that come out are much sweeter and affirming to others.
