Need to Get Back on Track

Monday, June 10, 2013

I'm afraid I have fallen off the nutrition wagon. I don't think it is completely my fault. It is also my husband's. He has taken to grilling Andouille Sausage links and other processed links. Usually, he will also grill lean burgers with them and I stick to those, but sometimes you just can't resist.

Then my son brought home some chocolate coffee cake. It looked really good and I had to try it. It wasn't. What a waste emoticon

I think my other issue is I am having trouble tracking as, sometimes, I will just take a bite or two of something to try it, and I don't know how to track it as it is not on the tracker. I'm wondering if the tracker causes me more issues than it helps. We don't usually eat standard fare. When we go to a restaurant, we go to local places that are not chains so it is very difficult to try to match up the foods. Then I get frustrated emoticon

I will get back on track! Today, we have a grilled chicken breast salad with grapes, cashews and light mayo for lunch emoticon

Have you ever tried Hillshire Smoked chicken sausage?! They have turkey ones too. We love them! At least it has lower calories and fat! If you read my current blog you will see I had a bad month since my fall with eating-haven't been that bad since I started SP!
As far as diners that aren't regular chain restaurants-I just look up what matches it best on the tracker and feel at least that is something. May not be the perfect match, but it will give you an idea of what you are eating calorie wise. Also, I will sometimes just use the chain"s calories for the same types of foods, because 9 times out of 10, any restaurant will be about the same-high in calories, fat and sodium. It is what it is! Eating in restaurants, which we do a lot too, is not good for the waistline. But, I find if you stick with the basics in foods, you won't fare too bad. I saved so many foods to my favorites on the tracker over the years, that it gets easier and easier. If you eat a certain food all the time, just save it to your favorites as time goes on. Don't forget the condiments either-overtime I have stopped eating them-talk about adding LOTS of calories to your day! Geeze! emoticon

Most of the restaurants we eat at are the same way so I usually just guesstimate the best I can. Sometimes I find an equivalent sounding meal one a chain's site and then just use that nutritional information. I know it's not exact, but it makes me feel more accountable for my choices.

i agree that those small bites are hard to count. I take a bit of something while cooking, or one bite of a treat at work... I never know what to do with that and I can go crazy trying to make it work. If I eat at the low end of my range I figure there is room for those extras, but days I'm on the upper end (most days) I always feel like I should be trying harder to track them.

Every now and then, you simply have to break the rules. You can do this. May your focus on the healthy habits we've been developing return. Hug, hug -- Evelyn

I created 50 calorie blocks in my tracker for those bites here and there and make my best guess. Can't be perfect all the time. I forget who the author is but I remember reading " You haven't failed unless you've given up". You choose to be here because you care about turning things around and making better choices. And you will.

I stopped tracking my food a while ago and just try to eat a low carb diet. I got frustrated with the tracker too. I can say that I have gotten obsessed with it in the past. just don't have the energy to track. As long as I try to follow the low carb lifestyle I continue to lose weight.
down 15 pounds since 3-19. I have drank about 9 times since then so I was not perfect.
I wish you much luck in this journey toward better health. keep at it.Hang in there and don't be too hard on your self.

You are doing great. Don't get discouraged with the tracker. It is difficult sometimes but make sure to have good things on hand. A couple bites of sweets usually helps me and I don't eat the whole thing.

I generally figure I eat an additional 300 - 500 calories per day in those bites and tastes. Adding that to my daily totals really helps me see the end result
