I know I haven't been posting a lot recently--since last summer grad school has pretty much taken over my life. I'm still around and still holding in there as far as the healthy lifestyle--but often it seems like by the skin of my teeth. Still, I'm doing another round of the BLC because it's good for me. Hard as it is sometimes juggling sparks sometimes with my current workout load, I know that without it my healthy lifestyle wouldn't even make it to the back burner. They'd be forgotten in the back of the pantry with those ancient canned goods and box of noodles so old they are only good now for children's art.
It being the start of the new round, we're to establish goals for the round. My goals are modest. Very modest. But modest is all I can handle right now.
Weight loss: 6 pounds. Yeah, I know, peanuts compared to a lot of people's goals, but I lose weight VERY slowly and I have yet to actually hit the 6 pound weight loss goal for a round. But I'm still going to try.
Nutrition: I want to eat something for breakfast every day, even if it's just a small thing of yogurt, a handful of nuts, or a wedge of cheese. I also want to drink tea for my morning caffeine instead of soft drinks. I've been doing well with this second goal since last fall, but as the weather gets hotter it's going to be harder for me... I'm not a big fan of iced tea. But so far so good, so....
Fitness: I want to get in at least 20 minutes of exercise 5 days a week (week defined for the purposes of the BLC as Wed. to Wed.). Doable, even when grad school explodes all over my life, right?
Stress management: First, I am going to spend some time every day reading from The Good Heart: a Buddhist Perspective on the Teachings of Jesus (either 15 minutes or a chapter, whichever comes first) until I finish the book; after that I will spend 5 minutes a day meditating. Second, I will spend at least 15 minutes a day in "me" time--something relaxing that recharges me mentally and helps me stay sane, like crafting or reading.
