To quit, or not to quit...

I'm trying to decide if I should take a break from Sparkpeople for a while. Yes, it's been a great help for me over the past few years in helping me lose the weight, but about all I can do every day is earn points and track most of my food and exercise. I don't hardly post on message boards, usually because there's always something going on around me that is distracting and I can't seem to put two words together when that happens. I've found that I'm doing way too much cardio and not enough strength training, which is why I can't seem to lose any more weight, and why I'm getting weaker. I can't hardly pick up my 5 year old granddaughter! So I'm going to remove myself from the 10,000 steps a day team and focus more on strength training to try to lose some weight I've regained. Only about 10 pounds, but I need to get it back off. Anyway, I'm wondering if I'm becoming too obsessed with Sparkpeople and need to take a break for awhile. That and my bodybug maybe. Just depend on my healthy eating habits and still exercise at least 5 days a week. Hoping I can think of a solution soon.

    I hope you don't leave totally Julie, I understand stepping back because sometimes it can get overwhelming. Definitely do Weight Training. I couldn't survive without it. ST gives me so much more energy at least for a while!! LOL... I am more obsessed with Strength Training than Aerobics. We lose a lot of muscle as we get older. Prayers for you to come to the decision which is best for you!

    I am really sorry to hear that you are finding it hard at the minute.
    My only bits of advice would be:
    Do what is right for you.
    Do what works for you.
    Do what will make you happy, both short and long term.

    Some people find it easier to hold off on the weighing side of it (especially when you are not doing as you would like) and continue with exercise but for strengthening (as you say you need to do) and fitness. I personally have had a few breaks and come back. I do completely agree, its so easy to get caught up in all the groups etc... which is great, if it is working for you and you are happy with the progress you are doing.

    I really wish you well in your journey, it is hard. The very best of luck in your decision.

    You need to make the decision that is best for you! Remember that things can become an obession and that is when we need to step back, breathe and re-focus our energy. Do not feel bad about your decision just take it slow and follow your heart. emoticon emoticon emoticon

    There's definitely a balance between being an active member of SparkPeople and letting SparkPeople rule our lives. I have had to step back a couple of times, but I don't know that I could ever give up the friendships I have developed over the years!

    Sparks can become obsessive. Step back for a while and focus on your ST, do what's right for you.

    I first joined in 2009 and quit twice so far and came back because this place helps me so much so it is all up to you and each of us is different.

    There might be something else going on with you that is making you weak.

    Good luck...I know what you mean....I've been a member since January...Find it pretty time consuming...but overall, generally helpful....I'm going to keep going....We'll see...Maybe just not worry so much about the points. Best wishes on your journey.... emoticon
