Still struggling with late night snacking

Sunday, June 09, 2013

I feel like that is the main thing hindering my weight loss. I don't snack alot during the day so when it comes to night time and everyone is asleep I just eat everything in my fridge. It's not always really unhealthy stuff, but it will be like crackers or apples or something.
So tonight I'm going to try a few things, and I'm going to write it down on here so I stay accountable!

For one, for some reason when I sit on the chair I don't feel so inclined to eat as opposed to the couch LOL. Sitting on the couch you can see right into the kitchen but sitting in the chair you can't haha. Also i'm going to brush my teeth (and floss lol) before sitting down, then chew some super minty gum or something so I don't feel the want to eat some sort of salty food. And I'll drink lots of water. They say to do something with your hands like knit or something but I don't knit or do anything exclusively with my hands so I don't know what to do for that haha.

Maybe I'll even try to go to bed earlier! I've always had problems sleeping until its like 2am so thats why I'm usually up watching tv or something. But I don't know how to get myself to sleep earlier since it's just always been something i've struggled with. I don't knooooooow

If you guys have any other suggestions let me know :)

Hmm... Well you're 19 right? When I was a teenager (I know, it's late teens for you but it still counts...I'm only 23 lol) I went to the doctor for a regular physical. My mom jokingly said to the doctor, "Yes, she's healthy, but she never goes to bed before 1 or 2 even on school nights."
The doctor smiled and said that it's actually natural for those in their teens to work on a 2am-10am sleep schedule. Why? I have no idea. But as soon as I hit 20-21 I started getting sleepy earlier and earlier until now my bedtime is from 10-12.

Also, I used to have late night snacking issues until I started eating big during the first half of the day. Maybe this would work for you? If I eat a breakfast less than 300 calories then later that night it comes back to haunt me. I also make sure to get a really big lunch too, as well as work out during the earlier part of the day. So then, by the time I get to the evening, all I want to do is relax.

Good idea about sitting in the chair, not the couch. I can totally understand where you're coming from :D Good luck on your weight loss. Whatever you do, don't give up!

It sounds like you've found a few things that might help cut down on the snacking! (the chair vs the couch, brushing your teeth to prevent more snacking, etc.) Tracking the snacks is a good idea, sometimes just the act of writing it down will help you to not reach for that next snack. Good luck!
