For the first time ever in my life, I tried cross fit yesterday. I am in good shape....for the most part. I have a stubborn thin layer of fat that I am trying to get rid of and despite the weight training, likes to hang around. I have fantastic muscle tone....it's just hidden.
So this inaugural workout that I attended yesterday whooped my butt! Not only did I sweat from parts I never knew could, I felt like I was dying and had a wonderful sense of accomplishment that I was still kicking and alive. The warm up was killer and was, in my opinion, just as intense as the workout itself.
The goal was to complete as many rounds as possible in a 12 minute period. Each round consisted of:
15 air squats
I survived!! Woohoo! I completed 30 pushups, 50 sit-ups, and 75 air squats in 12 minutes.
As I left for home, my lungs were burning and it took me a bit to recover. I went to work and felt fine the rest of the night. Today, most of the muscles that got worked are a bit sore, although my glutes and abs are completely normal. (I attribute this to the hard-core ab workouts I do along with the heavy lifting that engages my glutes.
Even though this was my first exposure to cross fit, and each workout is different, I am looking forward to the next session.
