...:::curious enough ..:::or is that "CRAZY enough?" to need to know what it feels like to run a longer distance.
I ran my very first 10K Distance early this morning! ...:::and I'm feeling GREAT!
My first 5K ( 3.1 miles ) distance began SLOW as I am not used to running so very early in the morning.....:::my fitness hours are late afternoon & evening.
By the end of the 3rd mile, my body had warmed up and I ran that last 3.1 miles much faster.
I kept a 10:30 - 12 min/mile run pace for my first 3.1 miles.....:::with a 2:1 ratio of run to walk. For those of you that don't know, I use the Jeff Galloway method for running. Now, my last 3.1 miles was paced faster ....let's see, I didn't run faster than a 9 min/mile and didn't run slower than a 10 min/mile. My ratio was still 2:1 for the most part.....:::there were a few time that I just walked 30 seconds as I felt the urge to FINISH. LOL!
Total 10K time 76:40
Running is so mental for me...:::or so I have discovered.
As I began my RUN this morning, I noticed that my right knee cap was a bit sensitive and so was my left shin....::but as I passed the 2 mile mark, everything became comfortable. Pretty neat-O! I thought to myself,
...::Not an ideal way to begin a long run....perhaps it was my NOT being used to early morning runs...
...:::: I felt strong as I continued to run.
All in all, I am a Happy Runner.
So glad I finished at the beginning of the day. Now it's time to get a nice breakfast, and head to church.
I think I will taper off this week with my run schedule.
I'll make my long run a 5 mile run, my first short run a 2 mile run, and I think I will run "a fastest mile" on my 3rd run for this week. This fastest mile will not involve any walking increments.
Looking back, it is still hard to believe that I just accomplished a goal I had set for myself. What a wonderful elated feeling...:::of making progress...:::no matter how small. Each small mile added on led me to today.
I wonder now, what next?
