My New Goal

For some time now I've heard about how artificial sweeteners are bad for you for various reasons. Yesterday I read this article:

It was a large study over many years and basically said that there is a huge link between artificial sweeteners and cancer. Particularly leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma and especially in men. I have consumed so many diet cokes and little pink, blue and yellow packets of chemicals over my lifetime. I really feel like I have to stop. What are your thoughts?

    I'm with you. Better to have a little of the real stuff than all the chemicals and possible side effects. I've had more than my share of the fake stuff and I need to stop. I've cut down drastically but I need to cut it out completely.

    I agree! I think that if you can get rid of your sweet tooth and not add artificial sweeteners and only when you want the real deal, have a small amount. Great goal to have!

I STILL drink diet soda on occasion. I think I need to rid my diet of it completely. emoticon

    I like that you have set this as a new goal for yourself! Sounds like it is something you have gotten use to including in your diet as many do.
There is a lot of information out there like this that does suggest this. I believe it. And just the word artificial is a big red flag for me. I never enjoyed the taste of any diet product as diet sodas so I never got use to it and as I learned more about it I managed to get my mother to stop drinking diet sodas a long time ago. Now she practically eats a vegan diet 90% of the time lol!
If you need a sweetener stick to natural sweeteners and try weaning yourself off of any added sweeteners to your foods. It probably sounds hard to do but it will be worth it. Plus you will most likely begin to enjoy the flavors of naturally sweet whole foods so much more once your body gets over letting go of the artificial sweeteners.
