Friday - 2 1/2 weeks post surgery

Friday, June 07, 2013

First 5 days hospitalized, been home since. Been to this rodeo before so I know what to expect for recovery. Minor differences seen between the 2nd hip and the first but overall very similar.

After 2 weeks on the walker I have moved up to crutches. (although I did use crutches earlier for small distances).

My DH takes me on car rides to help break up the cabin fever. Sitting in the car has its challenges - thank god I can adjust myself using the handle above the passengers door.

Sleeping is a challenge but its getting somewhat easier.

My PT nurse and I agree that physically I am ahead of where I was last time. And the challenge is to not go too fast. My super power appears to be healing which is a good thing.

Looking for sign-off from the surgeon on the 19th to allow me back into the pool. I really miss my daily swims and I know the water will definitely help in my recovery.

I did get my appetite back sooner than last time. It's funny given my mobility issues I rely on my DH for meals so talk about an enforced diet. With him at work all day snacking doesn't happen. I have lost a few pounds since the surgery - this is even with having a slice of heavenly carrot cake each night.

Doing some random genealogy searches to keep me amused. Just picking random people in my database to see if I can find anything new on them.

So far overall - in good spirits. Somewhat antsy waiting for the next phase in healing. Trying not to push myself too fast and to get some regular sleep which is a challenge.

Glad to see that you're progressing well. I hope the time flies between now and when you can get back to the pool!

You've got a terrific dh! Glad to hear your are healing, although it's never fast enough to suit us, is it? I had my hip done 8 years ago, and I believe my brain has just deleted all those recovery issues, as in, I don't even remember using crutches??? I think I used a cane after the walker? See? Can't remember. The brain is a wise organ, indeed. Do you like Scrabble or Words With Friends? I'll help you pass the time away that way if you'd like!

My DH gets a hip replacement in August. It helps to read your journey through it to know what to expect.
Thanks for sharing and I pray you heal quickly.
