When we recognize something or someone, our minds usually change focus from what we were thinking to a new direction. We see someone we know and we usually stop what we are doing and visit. We recognize something we have done so we stop to correct or admire it. Our ability to recognize should help us when we are tempted. When we are tempted, we should be able to recognize it and not give into because of fear or intimidation but to resist it with the power, love and self-discipline only God can give us.
2 Timothy 1:7 “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” (NLT)
Dear Lord, we have all been tempted. We know what it is like to do wrong and we know what it is like to resist temptation. We pray You will help us not to give in to temptation because we are afraid or intimidated, but give us the power, love and self-discipline to recognize and resist temptation so we can better focus on obeying You and serving others. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
When temptation comes, we have a choice to do what is right or do what is wrong.
We recognize things we have seen before. We have all seen temptation. Let’s recognize it next time and ask God to help us resist it.
We know what is right and wrong. Because we do, we should be able to know when we are tempted and turn from it.
Giving into temptation only feels good for a little while.
Satan wants to trick us into temptation but God wants to deliver us from evil. We have a choice who to give in to.
If we choose to give into temptation and do wrong, we begin to create habits and become slaves to sin.
Romans 6:16 “Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living.” (NLT)
