I have to do this...

I have to do this not just for me but for my family. I signed up for this at 175lbs about 6 years ago and what I would give to be even close to 175lbs. I have had 3 babies since then but that should not be an excuse. I must admit it isnt even just having babies it is making unhealthy choices. Well after I talked to a doctor I realized 145lbs is to small for me at 5 10 so my new goal will be 160.

    Don't be discouraged! You can do it. Life gets in our way sometimes, but just keep your focus and stay the course. It will come. And I agree - you can't "only" do it for others...your prime motivation has to be for you. I think your family/friends/et al would all agree that they'd like to have you around a while too! so stick with it. This is the place to be to accomplish your goal.

I think you're right to adjust your endpoint. I'm only 5'1", but even though all the data I see posted here and there on various websites (120-130 pounds?!?), I disagree with those values too. I think a reasonable goal for me would be closer to what's recommended for you! I'm 54 years old. I have no reason or desire to look like a 20-year-old fashion model! I'm content with some "curves."

Hang in there, use all the great tools here at SP to help you, and reach out to all of us, who are, after all, on our own versions of your journey.

I'm 5"10' too. I've never been anything but big or fat, so I have no idea what weight will be right for me. I've always been 'thick-set' so I'm kinda aiming for 165 lbs and then see how I feel then. I think 160 lbs sounds like a great place to aim for.

    Your family is not a bad reason to do this. But you need to be a little selfish about this. Yes Yes Yes Do it for YOU!

When I worked for Weight Watchers, I had a woman in our meeting who felt like she had to live for everyone else and that meant to her it was selfish to want to lose weight for herself. I suggested she turn that thinking on its head. "If you can't do it for yourself, do it so your kids will have a healthy mom at graduation, weddings, christening, Holidays.

But bottom line do it for you!
