I have a party to go to this weekend and it's a good time to review my rules for parties/eating out:
Look at the menu, if possible
Eat lightly through out the day
Drink lots of water.
Eat a little protein/carbohydrate snack before the drive to the party so not to arrive famished.
Focus on the people, that's what the get together is REALLY about.
First, look at all the options and choose a big helping of the most nutritious.
Have a big glass of water before any adult or sugary beverage. Limit it to one drink.
Prioritize. Focus on a few 'must have' items rather than trying everything.
Eat from a plate, not the buffet table!
If it doesn't taste as good as it seemed, don't be afraid to leave it on the plate
love dessert so I'll always have some, but at most one item.
*Keep track of the consumption. (I take a little notebook and write it down--I can sneak to the powder room if I'm shy to do it in front of people.)
*If possible, share dessert.
*If it's too much, take it home rather than eat it. (Or dump it if it will not offend the host.)
