I have a party to go to this weekend and it's a good time to review my rules for parties/eating out:

emoticon Workout
emoticon Look at the menu, if possible
emoticon Eat lightly through out the day
emoticon Drink lots of water.
emoticon Eat a little protein/carbohydrate snack before the drive to the party so not to arrive famished.

emoticon Focus on the people, that's what the get together is REALLY about.
emoticon First, look at all the options and choose a big helping of the most nutritious.
emoticon Have a big glass of water before any adult or sugary beverage. Limit it to one drink.
emoticon Prioritize. Focus on a few 'must have' items rather than trying everything.
emoticon Eat from a plate, not the buffet table!
emoticon If it doesn't taste as good as it seemed, don't be afraid to leave it on the plate
emoticon love dessert so I'll always have some, but at most one item.

*Keep track of the consumption. (I take a little notebook and write it down--I can sneak to the powder room if I'm shy to do it in front of people.)
*If possible, share dessert.
*If it's too much, take it home rather than eat it. (Or dump it if it will not offend the host.)
