Walking with my daughters

Thursday, June 06, 2013

I have found a better more healthy family tradition for those drama moments with my girls. Last night my teen girls tried out for next falls cheerleading squad. One girl Melissa made the squad and my older girl Elizabeth didn't. This has been very hard on Elizabeth. When I was her age or younger is when I first turned to food in moments like these. Instead of suggesting comfort food we have been on one long talking walk last night and 2 more today. My daughter and I have become fitter, became closer, and she is learning to deal with teen angst in a more healthy way then I did. Now my other 2 daughters want to walk with me too. I think for the undivided attention. Its a win win because the walking helps my back and gives me exercise while I give all 3 of my daughters quality time. So far today my step count is over 12,000. I was so busy talking to my daughter it didn't feel like exercise. The next time I 'm upset I may try the walking cure myself. Elizabeth is certainly doing better today. emoticon

What a brilliant thing to do. Your daughter will remember your waks for the rest of her life.

That is definately a great way to deal with issues that come up and who knows, enough walks and she may end up a marathoner later. Way to go mom on creatively dealing with a very serious issue.

Walking is wonderful especially when you're upset. It gets you out and away for a while. Win Win Situation! Way to go!

what a great way to have quality time with them all, and especially what a wonderful thing to teach them: don't turn to food for comfort.
you're a great mum! - in the English sense of course! :-)

Your blog moved me so much! You are a wonderful mom for realizing how important it is to give your daughters coping approaches. And indeed it is a win win situation, I am really glad it is helping your back!

The teen years are tough. You have become a great role model! This is a big win all the way around.

I hope it's a great summer for all of you!

That sounds wonderful, what a great 'inheritance' for your girls to have. Now they can go through things in a good way that will help them to feel listened to and heard. You are doing a wonderful thing for your girls and your 'generations'.
