TALKING TO MYSELF

Thursday, June 06, 2013

Sometimes on some of the teams I belong to I think I am talking to myself.
On some teams no one huddles,
No one posts log in points,
Seems no one does anything.
Now if it was one or two you would understand but 100% is difficult to understand.
Many you see on f/b but not on Spark.
I realize that is their choice but I hate to be the only one doing anything on some of the teams.
I am thinking of leaving those teams. Now I don't mind a small team as one which has thousands of people is overwhelming and you can't really get to know them.

Have any of you had this problem?

I hear you but lately I have been guilty of not participating much on SP too. I have pretty valid reasons but it has resulted in being left to my own devices which for me equaled weight gain.

am also tempted many times to leave an inactive team and then think maybe next week will be better
there are so many teams to choose from and try to limit the number belong too
sometimes just do not have the computer time
DH is better now so have more time
One day at a time

emoticon Your constant faithfulness in keeping us informed and inspired is a true blessing. However, I must agree that when a team has no participation, one must wonder if there is anyone out there.

I can see how frustrating talking to ones self can be. I have been a team leader and it hurts to work so hard to get participation and then it is just all for nothing it seems. But I also can tell you someone may pop in like me and it will be just at the right time and exactly what needed to be heard or done, so dear heart do not give up, God has a purpose for you and with Him by your side you cannot lose no matter where you go here on SP.
Love, Charlene

I've talked to myself on a few teams as well, One in particular I still do in hopes someone else will pop in, a couple of others I share the post with one other and then there are those that I just dropped because of inactivity except one that I had a clash with another poster

Yes, I have noticed some don't do much or nothing and others do. Lately, I have not been doing much on anything--too much going on. But I do try to huddle on my teams and am playing catch-up most of the time. ((HUGS))

It's hard to believe how many teams some people join. They have no intention of posting on all those many teams. When I select a team I look at the dates of the threads to see if the team is active at all. Also, I pick and chose when I post because I need to be more active rather than sit at the computer more. I don't post on all threads. I leave teams that don't meet my need or where I don't think I can contribute. Sometimes a team is helpful but then our lives change and needs change and the team no longer meets needs. I do not want to spend so much time on teams and not enough time in reading the good articles and health news that SP offers. Time is often an issue with many. HUGS.

Irene, I hope we are active enough for you. We have been going since 2007
with ups and downs. Small is nice but when it gets slow it worries me.
Some don't want to post because they have gained or lost focus. but its up to us to help get them back into trying.
I quit Bestlife for that reason, but I was paying for it too. So it didn't make sense to keep paying when all the ones I was posting too were too busy.
Sparks is awesome. Its a great place to have challenges, goals, read interesting views and recipes. Plus so many caring people.
we are all in this Together :) Your so good at staying active.
Your in Inspiration to us all

Hi Irene - I'm with you on a couple of teams. You are absolutely right! When I first joined or at least figured out that there were teams on Sparks I think I must have joined 3 dozen! I slowly discovered that a lot of them are pretty much empty tombs.

And its true that there are a lot of leaders who are just plain not there. There are teams that are so busy that they are right clicky and pretend you don't exist even when you post everyday. Or teams that have really volatile members - oh my. Almost fanatical in their views, and you better not hold a different view. Holy smokes! Then there was a team that when I posted the leaders took a vacation and decided I could keep the posting up alone. As soon as I left they came back! Wow.

You are a wonderful poster and I appreciate that your consistency and input. Hope we can keep in touch!

Yes I think we've all suffered from that problem. I think members sometimes do SP for a while but then fade away...I have so many sparkfriends that just aren't around anymore. Well there is a core of us that carry on and on and on!! lol.

I find that on one of my most busy teams every one has lately had on lives issue after the other, this happens, I am sure they will be back.
I miss people if they don't at least stop in to say Hi.

I also like to be informed if one of my friends are going to go missing. emoticon

I belong to a few teams with whom I have something in common, but usually just participate in the daily chat, although a couple have some other (accountability, challenge) threads on which I participate. The ones I'm on, I've gotten to "know" a number of the members. Like you! emoticon Shel

I can feel Your frustration too. Team Leaders at time don't do anything for the Teams either at times. Even when a New Team Leader takes over things remain the same. I thought of taking over one of the teams but my knowledge of the computer (don't know how to load pictures, down load things etc. ) it would not be fair because I could not do what needs to be done for the team. And how to get the Members to show more of an interest in their team I don't know. You feel all alone when things like this happens. I hope things get better for You and your Teams. Hope You are doing Well too. God Blessings to You and Everyone. Have a Fantastic Day. Hugs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like it's time to change it up a little. I joined a 5% challenge (one of eleven teams) and we do a set of 8-week challenge 4-5 times a year. I'm pretty sure I've completed ten rounds already. This means the pace is fairly hectic at times (not for the weak at heart -- literally). Sounds like you could use some new teams and some fresh lovin'. Hug, hug -- Evelyn

I realize there are young people who still work, have a family and other obligations so they don't have as much time but when you see them on f/b they could at least huddle or something to let us know they are still around.

I don't watch points, but I do know this is my busiest time of year at the bakery. Add to it horse shows, therapy, and tiring pain and I have precious little time. I come when I can. Maybe you hit a team of people like me!!

I have had the problem of no participation. When I first joined SparkPeople, I was looking up teams with a Christian emphasis. I joined one team that had a really interesting title. I posted daily for a while, thinking that surely at least the team leader would answer. Nope! So then I took a look at the participation and discovered that everyone else had quit posting for a while. It was a dying team and when I looked at it closely, it turned out that it had been a team of mainly one church that had posted regularly with the pastor as leader. When the pastor lost interest, then everyone else quit also.

So now when I join a team, I first check to see how recent the posts are on the team.

Yet another reason I do not belong to any social media. Sites are not secure, life is too short and Sparks is more healthy and safe.

I belong to a couple teams that I am the only poster too. I am thinking of dropping those teams and shopping for some that people participate in regularly.
