The Broccoli Saga

Thursday, June 06, 2013

You know I think that my life might be fodder for a comedy!

Between the duck grand-mothering and the guarding the nest, valiantly chasing off racoon's until the wee hours of the would think that would be enough?

No, I have to improve on that!

I have to have a broccoli saga! Yes, me! Today.

So I start off making a pot of broccoli soup ( The Plan) how hard can that be?
I am fairly confident that I have all the ingredients including home made, organic chicken broth.

Last ingredient to add is the broccoli and when I get it out it is half the amount that I thought I had, AND half that the recipe calls for.
What to do?
I look over at the clock and I have 45 minutes before the kids come home, it is raining lightly but that does not deter me. I pull on my rain jacket, grab a eco-friendly grocery bag and cycle to the store in the rain. As long as I get back in time to get the kids from school I should be fine
I don't need my whole purse so I quickly reach into my wallet/purse and grab my card. You know the one I put sideways so that it is easy to find.

I get to the store and pick up broccoli and some bread and a few things. Not too much, I have to cycle home with it! I get to the checkout and pull out the card to pay and I could not believe it!

It was a Tim Horton's gift card and an empty one at that! ( I had gone with a friend to TH for coffee and she picked me up, but while I was there I wanted to check if I had a balance on the card! nope! )

I stuck it back in my purse sideways to remind myself to either throw it away or recharge it!
I paid cash and so did not need my credit card! I had a sugar free latte!

So that's how the card confusion happened! So I pedaled back into he rain empty handed trying to decide whether I should laugh or cry!

So what about my soup!?

I emailed my husband to tell him my silly story and his reply was:

"Change the recipe?

Melly, Melly, make a plan.
If she can't do it, no one can!"

But no I want BROCCOLI! For my soup! You know the yummy addictive soup!

You know the soup I was supposed to eat for lunch! Sigh!

I suppose one day I will think it funny, today, not so much!

I used my organic home made chicken broth and all!

Oh well, moving on.....

I guess my broccoli woes just don't evoke enough sympathy, or pity, ( I'll take both)
I shared my story with some of the moms after school hoping that they would offer to take me to the store to get broccoli or offer their own broccoli to ease my tension. NOPE !

Ever heard of CAR POOLING people? The comment is " Oh I was at the store this morning..." They all KNOW I don't' have a car. How about offering me a ride?

So rather than make my kids cycle back to the store with me in the rain, I am going to just eat broccoli deprived broccoli soup!

So there goes dinner... best thing I can think to do is just put the soup in the fridge as it is and get more broccoli later when DH gets home...I really didn't want to have to go out tonight!

So now back to the drawing board! What to have for dinner, oh and did I mention it's cold and rainy?

I have some ground beef, I guess I will make pasta sauce...or something, I am not committing to anything, I may find I don't have an ingredient!

So I guess...come to think of it, it really is zucchini soup!

Disclaimer : this is tongue in cheek, you know humour...otherwise known as comedy! My life!

Well I got your sense of humor, and I sure hope others do too. I'd far rather read about someones tails of woe with the humor added, than just the facts. I love it....which Im quite sure you meant me to.
Your lack of broccoli sounds like the 12 lemons in the movie The Breakup with Jennifer Anistan. LOL

I like Lis193's solution - I think I would have done the same - split the rest of the ingredients for now, unless I had cauliflower as a substitute/supplement

Broccoli soup sounds good - it's what I had for lunch.
Ok - you could have taken half of the soup and added the broccoli - you would have had at least something :)
Hope you figured out something for dinner. I can relate to being without a car :(( Mine is still on the "fix it heap"... the new part did help but there is more going on.
Too bad about the other mom's not offering you a ride, it would have taken, what, 30 minutes or less out of their day?

emoticon Doesn't sound to inviting to me? I shouldn't knock it until I've tried it but I do see that it's a healthy dish.
