This song is not about what I am concerned with; however, the title is excellent. This author was telling people to not cheat on their mates. He suggested you stay true to the one you are with and not stray.
My interest is in loving the one you are with: You. Today, I find that I am very proud of myself and have a great deal of love for myself. At times past, if I was asked who I loved most I would respond that I loved my children, my parents/grandparents, my mate, some foods, etc.
I never mentioned I loved myself because I really didn’t love me. I loved everyone and everything around me but not the person that is always with me—myself.
It is very interesting that we are now being told to not forget to reward ourselves. I always rewarded my children and anyone else who had performed above and beyond what was expected. I, on occasion, rewarded myself for achievements above and beyond what was expected, but I kept it a secret for fear that people would think I was being self-centered. Today, I am not concerned about what others think of the fact that I truly appreciate me. As I appreciate myself I am able to see the good in others and can appreciate them more. So, I reward myself for achievements and I am able to self-talk in a positive way.
When I was a child I loved me, but as I grew older I became what society expected of me—love everyone else. If it takes being a child again then that is what I will become. There is no love more important than loving yourself.
