SparkPeople: Wonderful Community

Thursday, June 06, 2013

I logged into SparkPeople today, and I got the most flattering notice from SparkPeople:

"Trophies you have won: Popular Blog Post "85 Pounds Is Heavy""

When I wrote that blog, I never intended it to be a popular post. I was just looking to share my jaw-dropping, eye-opening experience with my weight loss - how BIG 85 pounds looks, how MUCH I was carrying on my body for years. I was just pleased as punch to have so many sweet, encouraging comments on my blog.

SparkPeople really is a great community; everyone I've met is so uplifting and encouraging, always ready with a word or emoticon that keeps me going. The Internet can be filled with so many dark, depressing places - the news or political blogs or conspiracy websites or whatever - but SparkPeople is just such a great place.

When I log in, I know I am not the only person out there who struggles with emotional eating and carb/sugar addiction. I know I'm not the only person who is carefully monitoring what she eats so that she can live a healthy lifestyle. I know I'm not alone, that there is one of the many wonderful people here who has been through what I have and will put in a kind word. I always leave here at the end of the day in better spirits with a smile on my face.

So thank you, my wonderful SparkFriends, for letting me put a smile on your face this once. Thank you for your support and encouragement and kind words. Thank you for being a great community and thank you for helping me on this journey to a healthy lifestyle!

emoticon So happy you've been recognized for the positive, insightful, consistent, and supportive blogger that you are!

And I agree -- I love how I can log in to Sparkpeople and feel better by the time I log out. It's truly a haven for a place to seek inspiration from others, receive supportive comments on my blog or sparkpage, or a place I can vent without being judged or looked down upon. Plus, I find that as a community we can be much more true to ourselves here, opposed to other social networking -- I'm talking to you, Facebook! -- in which there is a more competitive/bragging rights atmosphere. In fact, Facebook is the last place I go to if I'm feeling in low spirits...

Anyway, so glad that we are Spark buddies and that you are finding so much success in your consistent, great work to a healthier, happier you :D
