I Should Have Saved My Money

Thursday, June 06, 2013

While wandering through Target yesterday I saw a display of Starbucks coffee and decided that since I have heard so much about how good it is, I thought I would try some. I must say I was quite disappointed. I think that the best tasting coffee is Folger's although I have gone to the store brand from Walmart in the last few years due to cost, and actually that is not too bad either.
The closest I can come to comparing the Starbucks coffee to is the coffee supplied by the local hospital which is, I think, some kind of liquid which is diluted by hot water.
I have been drinking coffee since I was a child although not regularly until in my mid teens. I don't like decaf which is just hot brown water in my opinion and like my coffee black with no sugar. I also don't like really strong coffee which allows me to drink coffee all day if I feel like it and even in the evening although I do tend avoid that because I don't like to have to get up at night to run to the bathroom. I worked nights for eleven years and coffee was a necessity for me to get through the shift since I am by nature a lark, not an owl.
I am willing to experiment so I may try some Dunkin Donuts coffee next since some people say that is the best.
Enough complaining! I just wanted to express my opinion that I don't think it was worth the extra money.

I DO like strong coffee and was thrilled when I discovered real local roasters way back when. Folgers tastes like brown water to me. When Starbucks first came out I couldn't believe my luck, it was right in my own neighborhood, I didn't have to mail order coffee anymore! But even then they came out with lighter roasts. Their Pike Place roast tastes Folgers to me, and their Blonde Roast barely tastes like coffee. When I travel outside the US they always had better coffee than I used to be able to get at home. I don't know if I like the corporate thing, but it's nice to have good, strong coffee readily available at last!

We wondered if Starbucks would take a bite out of our local caves when it came to town, but they just didn,t get a foothold. I think we have some of the best coffe e in the world here in Wellington.

I agree! Went to Starbucks once and thought it was way too expensive for my taste buds. I'm a Folgers girl and like you sometimes Maxwell House or Walmart brand due to cost. I also like the French Vanilla coffee at Quik Trip.

I agree about the Starbucks. Highly overrated! I do like Folgers Black Silk and Yuban Dark. I like a bold coffee. If it is bold I like it black if not I put a little stevia in it. Pete's coffee is also very good but it's a little expensive.

I agree with you about Starbucks coffee. My son often gives me Dunkin Doughnuts coffee. I do like it. Also I like Folgers and Maxwell House. I'm not real picky, but I do like my morning coffee.

Starbucks has a lot of different variety of coffee. I like their lighter blend, but can't stand the darker stuff. Gloria jeans is my favorite coffee when I want to splurge. I don't really drink it anymore because it was causing me sleep problems!

Hubby always wants the Folgers Black Silk, and it is good. My love to grind flavored coffee beans, but that is an expensive habit so I save that coffee for weekends!

emoticon I wonder if we are Sisters!? I Love Folgers Coffee, but I can't stand Starbucks! I do like StarBuck's Cups, especially their Christmas Mugs. So I buy a Mug every Year, and drink Folgers out of it, LOL!!

I don't drink coffee, but I've heard 'real' coffee drinkers (those who drink black coffee) say that Starbucks coffee isn't real coffee. emoticon

I have never cared for Starbucks, even if it was "invented" in my state.

I agree Gail and have recently switched to Folgers myself. I just found I was really enjoying the coffee at my daughter's and daughter in laws and that's what they made. Worth the price.

I agree with you that the coffee shops aren't worth the price. I'm not much of a coffee drinker (get my caffeine from diet pepsi) but John is. He buys 4 different kinds of beans and makes his own blend. I still have to doctor mine at least with milk, though!
Just goes to show that expensive doesn't necessarily mean better.

I love Folgers coffee best myself. Like you, I enjoy my coffee all day long and I drink it black too. Due to cost, I have been buying the Chase and Sanborn coffee lately as it's $2.00 cheaper than Folgers, and it's not bad. But anytime Folgers is on sale, I try to stock up on it. emoticon emoticon emoticon

I commented on a message board about Starbucks, I was also disappointed, plus Dunkin Donuts coffee. I also drink Folgers, I do not like Maxwell either. I am a once a cup a day drinker in the morning & that first cup must be good. if we go out for breakfast & the coffee at times as been awful then the meal to me is less enjoyable

Your coffee history and habits fit mine to a T. I also prefer black but usually at chirstmas time I do buy flavored creamer for guests. Last christmas my DH bought me a "christmas" blend. Oh my was it ever good. Have no clue what brand it was tho. Next time try the flavored coffees in a small quantity to see if you like it or not. I sometimes use it as a substitute for a dessert. Chocolate coffee is good.
