Yesterday I made chicken and dumpling soup... just plain perfect for a cold winter's day. Not an easy meal though... at least not with me. I don't fancy cream of "something" soups so I never cook with them. And chicken stock... well, I do use stock powder at times, but for chicken and dumplings only the real thing will do. Yet, often my chicken stocks are just a bit... uhm, boring.
But the stock I produced yesterday was just plain fantastic. And I reckon I found a secret ingredient... actually two: ginger root and a cinnamon stick. Call me gaga (you wouldn't be the first one), but it really give the stock the extra kick... I just love experimenting and love it even more if those experiments actually work out.... so I used pepper corns, mustard seeds, 2cm of ginger root, 1 cinnamon quill, rock salt, carrots, chicken (of course), fresh parsley, thyme, rosemary, dill and sage from the garden (maybe one or two slugs???), bay leaves, cloves, onions, garlic... uhm... I think that's about it... and water. Now I just need to try re-creating it to see if it really is as good as the one from yesterday... yet re-creating anything isn't my... forte... ou well, enough of my babbling... yet, somehow I'm very grateful that I can cook and generally it tastes great... or at least that's what hubby says. It's funny, when we first got married, I couldn't cook for the life of me. My mother was slightly worried for the welfare of my new husband, yet once married, I remember thinking: "Well, either I cook and like it or I cook and don't"... well, that settled it... I'm grateful that I decided to better learn cooking in a way that I like it... in order to be able to invite people over for dinner, which we love doing.
On another note...I got my measuring tape out again this morning... and I was a little disappointed, somehow I "shrink" rather reluctantly, at least at the places I'd love to shrink most (my belly)... or my measuring skills are just abyssal... I lost 10kg since January, but only 6cm on my hips, 5cm on my waist and 5cm on my thighs. Yet I had to put a new hole in my belt... hmmm....
I used to wear it at hole #5 and tried to squeeze in hole #4... and now I can comfortably wear my belt with this brand new hole... so maybe I'm just crap at measuring myself... whatever, I am shrinking, and I reckon it's not only on my boobs or.
