Breaking a Sweat

Late Spring/Early Summer has finally hit the Portland, OR area where I live. The sun is out and hot, and after weeks of rain-rain-rain (and barely 55 degrees), it feels GREAT. I'm also fully moved into my new apartment, so no more racing between apartments, bustling boxes and hefting them up stairs. And, I'll be participating in a Bike Ride for Diabetes on July 20th (OMG, my FIRST EVER ride for charity!!). So we all know what that means: time to hit the fitness center!
So last night at about 7:45pm, I hauled my sister and me to our apartment complex's fitness center. It was a nice place, small, of course, but nice. Two treadmills, a stationary bike, and a elliptical machine, along with one of those multi-weights apparatuses that looks like an octopus. I chose the treadmill; my sister the elliptical. We hit 30 min on our machines and off we went.
The room was not air conditioner, so it was pretty warm. Honestly, I liked that even more - it felt GOOD to build up a sweat! The two of us just plugged along, watching a hockey game between LA and Chicago. We weren't fans, but it was left on and both of us were too lazy to change it. When we were done with our time, it felt so nice to get outside where the air was cooler - and even better to hit the showers!
It's so funny how exercising works. I want to drink water. I don't want to drink as much. I feel more alert. I find I like focusing on putting one foot in front of the other. I've also tried to clear my mind as I walk, focusing only on my breathing and my form.
All in all, it was a great experience. Just a month ago, I was hitting the fitness center twice a week minimally. I want to get back to that again!
