Zombies, Run! 5K W1D1

Today I started my 5K training program using the Zombies, Run! 5K app. It is fantastic! This is the most motivated I have ever felt to go out and complete a run. The hardest part for me is going to be allowing myself "off" days to rest! I think I will be building my fitness routine around this whole idea of gamification. This means making my strength training and other fitness/health goals relate back to the zombies app. It'll be like roleplaying in real life.
The zombies app, for those that don't know, has the premise that you are part of a base that is surviving against the zombie apocalypse. You have to go out on runs to collect things the base needs to operate. There are missions to accomplish these tasks. The 5K app is a little different from the normal version in that it is a training program. The premise that you are getting fit in order to be able to go out on "real" missions.
This week consists of three days of 10 min walk + 1 min walk + 15 sec run intervals x 10 + 10 free style run. The free style run can be walking, slow running, sprinting, whatever you feel you have energy left for. I did about 3 minutes of running and 7 minutes of walking for the free style section. There something quite motivating about getting fit in order to run away from zombies.
Tomorrow I will try to do some strength training since I will need to give my legs a rest. According to my fitbit I walk/ran a total of 6.16 miles today. Tomorrow I can focus on my core and upper body. Woohoo!
