5K and Beyond

It has been four years since I ran in the Whidbey Island Marathon and completed the 1/2. I was so on top of the world and told myself that I would keep training and do another one and perhaps even a full marathon. Well, things happened and I slacked off from running and exercising and eating healthy and gained most of my weight back. I started having some health issues and after being in pain for over a year I ended up having a total abdominal hysterectomy on March28th. After my six week check-up my doctor gave me the ok to begin running again. I am now able to run a little over a mile without stopping. I try to get in a 3-4 mile run/walk 5 days a week. Earlier today I saw a FaceBook posting about a local race in September. I told myself the only way to get back out there is to just do it. I registered for the "Perdido Key-munity 5K Gumbo Run. It will take place on September 7th.
I might not be able to run the entire course but I will be ok with doing a run/walk. It is giving me the excitement of something to strive for. There are so many people on here that give me so much motivation and support. I would especially like to thank some fellow Sparkers:

I know that when I have a specific goal and plan to work toward, I do much better and have such a sense of satisfaction.

Doing 3-4 miles several times a week is awesome! I try to run at least 3 days and I do other exercises.

My mom had a hysterectomy and she put on a little after it. Apparently that happens sometimes due to hormones.
